Musicians: KAYE (Saxophonist)

Arguably the first, and one of the very few saxophonists playing in the Singapore club scene, Kaye’s love for Jazz has branched into adventures with club music. A Jazz influenced musician, Kaye has gone off the beaten track, preferring to build his style with computers, DJs and clubs, instead of other musicians in typical live music venues.

His niche position of being possibly the only regular live musician feature in the Singapore clubbing scene still stands, and that is definitely worth noting. Being an electronic music producer and DJ as well has made him one of the very few in the industry who “gets it”, and has enabled him to craft out interesting blends of live music in an electronic setup - all geared for the dancefloor.

 

Kaye was a resident in one of Singapore’s leading underground clubs, Liquid Room / Sound Bar for four years, and the now defunct (but sorely missed) beach club KM8. He also spent a year at Stereolounge, and was a regular feature at other prime outlets like Hacienda in Dempsey, La Maison, Velvet Underground, Wavehouse and Krish.

 

An electronic music producer as well, his original material has been featured on compilations from Universal and IO Music, and has done production work for Nokia, Arts Central (Frequency of the City Season 1 & 2), as well as mini projects for radio shows (Zouk Radio, Lush 99.5).

 

With his DJ partner Dean (Funk Bast*rd), they have a production outfit as well (known as Cosa Nostra). Together, they have remixed international artists and travelled extensively. (refer to / request for Cosa Nostra bio for more details).

 

Not a stranger to the studio recording scene as well, his sax can be heard on albums and tracks released by Electrico, X’ Ho, Vanessa Fernandez, Michaela Therese, Sheikh Haikel, Olivia Ong; Singaporean movie soundtracks (Forever Fever, Chicken Rice War); and a whole host of other work, including a remix of Hong Kong diva Sandy Lam.

Together with his DJ partner (Dean), they were nominated to headline a Heineken Green Room Session event (as Cosa Nostra) in Penang back in 2003. They have also headlined club parties in Jakarta’s MannaHouse Club (2004), Majahouse (1st anniversary party, 2011) and their own concert in the Esplanade (2008) featuring their unique brand of music, incorporating live musicians for the first time.
